The video of George Floyd being murdered in front of our eyes is unbearably painful. George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Sean Reed and countless others died – and continue to die – at the hands of a corrupt, racist system designed to ground down and enslave black Americans.
As white people, the three of us are direct beneficiaries of a system that is rotten to the core and we are complicit in it. We must publicly lean into our discomfort and vulnerabilities around racism and power, recommitting every day to learning, growing and dismantling white supremacy. That place is where our progress as human beings and as a country will be made.
Silence is not an option, but ours are not the voices that need to be listened to. The only ones that matter are those of the oppressed. Here are some local and national voices we seek to amplify:
