Former AZ GOP chairman in trouble on Twitter. Former Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen is being called a racist on social media.

During Tuesday night’s debate, Pullen tweeted: “Yes Black lives matter. The best way to end the slaughter of young Black men is to take guns away from Blacks as they are the main killers.”

Pullen said people have taken his comment out of context.

“That’s what happens if you’re a conservative, they can pull something out that makes you a racist,” Pullen said. “If I put ‘white-on-white,’ we wouldn’t be sitting here, would we?”

During Tuesday’s debate, Pullen tweeted multiple times.

He said the “Black lives matter” tweet was in response to the Democratic candidates’ push for gun legislation, something Pullen vehemently disagrees with.

Whether sarcasm or political misstep, Valley political consultant Bill Scheel said whatever message Pullen was trying to get across was lost in the delivery. “Trying to use sarcasm when you’re talking about guns and race is a recipe for disaster,” Scheel said. “If that’s what he was trying to do, that was a big fail.”

“The tweet was really responding to what was being said in the debate by Bernie [Sanders] and Hilary [Clinton] about gun violence, about taking guns away to solve the problem.”

Pullen said many people are missing his intention of slamming the Democrat candidates’ rationale.

“I was being sarcastic to point out that would be the next logical step to what they were saying,” Pullen said.

None of the candidates’ comments referred to black-on-black crime or focused on the black community as being responsible for gun violence and gun deaths.

They did say that comprehensive gun legislation is needed.

“That doesn’t solve the problem. Guns don’t cause the violence, people do,” Pullen said.
